Location
North Augusta is a self-governing city located approximately 12 miles northwest of downtown Aiken, situated on the South Carolina bank of the Savannah River directly across from Augusta, GA. The city straddles Aiken and Edgefield Counties, with its population of approximately 24,000 making it Aiken County's second largest municipality. The primary commercial spine is Georgia Avenue (US-25), which runs north-south through the city and connects to I-20 (Exit 5 via SC-230) at the northern end and to downtown Augusta, GA via the Thirteenth Street Bridge. SRP Park at 187 Railroad Ave — home of the Augusta GreenJackets Single-A baseball team — anchors the Riverside Village development on the riverfront, a mixed-use entertainment district with restaurants, hotels, and retail. Hammond's Ferry is a planned new urbanist residential community adjacent to Riverside Village, offering an antebellum-inspired architectural aesthetic on the Savannah River waterfront.

North Augusta presents a bifurcated character — the established Georgia Avenue commercial corridor and older residential neighborhoods that represent the city's pre-2010 suburban identity, and the new riverfront Riverside Village and Hammond's Ferry development that has injected significant energy and real estate premium into the city's western edge. SRP Park is the centerpiece of this transformation: the 4,800-seat ballpark opened in 2018 and catalyzed hotel construction, restaurant openings, and residential development that has reshaped North Augusta's economic profile. Georgia Avenue retains its traditional suburban commercial character — national chains, local restaurants, and retail strips serving a car-dependent population — while the riverfront development has created a walkable, event-centric destination zone that draws visitors from across the CSRA. North Augusta High School (Yellow Jackets, SCHSL 4A) is the city's largest public school and one of the most competitive athletic programs in Region 5-4A.
History
North Augusta was incorporated in 1906 as a planned community on the South Carolina bank of the Savannah River, positioned to take advantage of the Augusta market while offering the regulatory and tax advantages of South Carolina residency. The city grew steadily through the 20th century as a bedroom community for Augusta, GA workers who preferred the SC side. The announcement and completion of SRP Park (2018) and the Riverside Village development transformed the city's identity from quiet bedroom community to active entertainment and residential destination.
