Character

Langley's character is defined by the juxtaposition of its modest mill-community residential fabric with the unexpectedly impressive athletic destination of Langley Pond Park — a 2,000-meter Olympic-standard rowing course that has hosted regional and national rowing competitions and serves as a training site for serious competitive rowers. The Park also features disc golf, a 2.8-mile trail, and a swimming beach. Residential Langley is quiet and affordable, with a mix of historic mill housing and postwar residential construction.

History

Langley developed around the Langley Manufacturing Company mill established in 1848, one of the earlier textile mills in the Horse Creek Valley chain. The mill pond — Langley Pond — that powered the mill was later developed into a public recreational facility that evolved into its current role as a nationally recognized rowing venue after significant public investment in the 2,000-meter racing course.
