Character

Hammond's Ferry is intentionally designed as a walkable, mixed-use new urbanist community — the antithesis of conventional suburban sprawl. Homes are built close to the street in an antebellum Low Country architectural vernacular, with front porches, narrow lots, and rear-loaded garages creating a pedestrian-friendly streetscape. The proximity to SRP Park means that on GreenJackets game nights, the community fills with spectators walking from their homes or rental units to the stadium. Restaurants and retail in Riverside Village are a short walk from most Hammond's Ferry addresses. The Savannah River itself is accessible via greenway paths, offering running, cycling, and scenic views across to Augusta, GA.

History

Hammond's Ferry broke ground in approximately 2008 as a long-term vision for new urbanist development on the North Augusta riverfront, but the project gained its decisive momentum when SRP Park opened in 2018. The 4,800-seat Minor League Baseball stadium catalyzed hotel construction (Crowne Plaza), restaurant openings, and accelerated residential development within Hammond's Ferry that had been slow to materialize in the years between groundbreaking and the park opening.
