AIKEN, S.C. — Downtown Aiken hosts a Veterans Day parade at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, an event organizers and local estimates say may be the first of its kind in the history of the city.
The Aiken County Veterans Council is putting on the parade, the weekend before the Nov. 11 holiday. Groups had until Nov. 1 to sign up to march.
Units line up on Park Avenue beside the Aiken Visitors Center and Train Museum. From there the procession follows the same path used for the Memorial Day and Christmas parades, moving onto Laurens Street and turning north toward Edgefield Avenue near Trinity on Laurens.
The council serves as an umbrella for veteran groups across Aiken County, sharing information among them and taking up issues that affect active-duty members, veterans and their families. More details are posted on the council site at aikencountyveterans.org.
