Got lucky enough to play during Masters Week — only time it opens to the public. The MacKenzie greens are exactly what you would expect from the man who designed Augusta National three years later. Walked it. Bermuda fairways were spotless.
Memorable Hole: Hole #6 -- the short par 4 over the creek
Toughest Green: Hole #9 -- false-front green that fed everything back to my feet
Best Food: Pimento cheese sandwich at the halfway house

Walkable, affordable, and historic. Hard to find a more charming public course in the Southeast. The old Highland Park clubhouse with the Babe Zaharias photos is worth the visit by itself. Played from the white tees in just under three hours.
Memorable Hole: Hole #12 -- short par 3 with the elevated downtown skyline view
Toughest Green: Hole #15 -- the tilted green that feeds left
Best Food: Burger at The Legends Grille — they make it the way the old hotel guests would have remembered it

Arthur Hills routing is fantastic. Played from the tips at 7,206 and got humbled. The water comes into play more than you would think from looking at the card. Pro shop staff was outstanding — Chase set us up with a great group of locals.
Memorable Hole: Hole #18 -- the long par 5 with the second-shot decision over the lake
Toughest Green: Hole #7 -- the long par 3 into the prevailing wind
Best Food: Hot dog and a cold beer at the turn

Played the Sherwood/Hounds nine combo as a guest. Conditions were country-club quality top to bottom. The three nines give it more variety than most courses in the area. Brought the whole family — pool and tennis kept everyone busy after.
Memorable Hole: Hole #4 on Sherwood -- the dogleg around the pond
Toughest Green: Hole #8 on Hounds -- elevated green over a swale
Best Food: Club sandwich on the patio overlooking 18

Ellis Maples old-school routing. The course rewards strategy over distance — I outscored two guys who hit it 40 yards past me because they kept finding the bunkers I was avoiding. Greens are firm and fast. Pro shop staff was welcoming.
Memorable Hole: Hole #11 -- the double-dogleg par 5
Toughest Green: Hole #14 -- crowned green that rejects everything
Best Food: Cheeseburger and fries at the grill

Jim Fazio routing right along the Savannah. The riverside holes on the back nine are unforgettable — felt more like a coastal course than a CSRA course. Played as guests of a member, but the public-pay rate is reasonable considering the conditions.
Memorable Hole: Hole #16 -- the par 3 with the river behind the green
Toughest Green: Hole #13 -- the long par 4 with bunkers everywhere
Best Food: Wings and a Palmetto pale ale after the round
