Irmo, S.C. — The Town of Irmo opened its annual holiday toy collection with the Marine Corps Reserve charity, setting a Dec. 4 cutoff for new gifts left at Town Hall.
Residents can leave unused toys that are still in the package on the porch at 7300 Woodrow Street, where a bin stays open beyond normal office hours. Town officials said even small contributions matter for Midlands families.
Danielle McNaughton, the town communications manager running the local campaign, asked neighbors to help make the season brighter for kids who might otherwise go without a gift.
People who prefer to give cash can use the national charity website instead of bringing an item. Organizers say the Irmo bin welcomes presents suited to any age group.
The nationwide Marine Corps Reserve program dates to the late 1940s and still focuses on putting new playthings into the hands of children facing hard economic times at Christmas.
