AIKEN, S.C. — The Aiken Symphony will mark Veterans Day with a patriotic pops concert on the holiday itself, Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Etherredge Center at USC Aiken.
Conductor Scott Weiss leads a program of music tied to American service and remembrance. It opens with the Liberty Fanfare by John Williams, first written when the Statue of Liberty was rededicated in 1986, and runs through Morton Gould’s American Salute, Victory at Sea, music from Band of Brothers and Born on the Fourth of July, and Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings.
God Bless America and the Armed Forces Medley, which salutes each branch of the military, come near the end, and the night closes with The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa. A retired Army Special Forces veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan will host.
The theater is at 340 Scholar Loop. Seats cost $45 or $60, and credit card sales carry a fee. Active-duty service members get $10 off each ticket, and students younger than 25 can get in for $5.
