AIKEN, S.C. — Families, friends and supporters of people with Down syndrome will gather on the University of South Carolina Aiken quad in Aiken, S.C., on Sunday, Oct. 25, for the 2026 Aiken Buddy Walk.
Upside of Downs of Aiken, the local nonprofit behind the event, opens check-in and family activities at 1:30 p.m. An opening ceremony is planned for about 3 p.m., and the walk itself starts at 3:21 p.m.. The campus sits at 471 University Parkway.
Every walker has to register and sign a waiver ahead of time so organizers can plan for the crowd. Fundraising is optional, and the group listed a $10,000 target on its online donation page. Money raised supports the local group and the National Down Syndrome Society.
The national Buddy Walk program started in 1995 with 17 walks. Aiken held its first one in 2008, and the local event came back in person last year after the pandemic pause. Upside of Downs, formed in 2010, is made up of parents, relatives, teachers and medical workers.
