Aiken County Public School District leaders are asking families and residents in the Silver Bluff High School area to weigh in on a long-range facilities plan that could add a middle school wing to the campus and reshuffle attendance zones for several nearby schools.
The proposal is part of a broader district master plan aimed at addressing aging school buildings across Area Five, which includes students currently attending Jackson Middle School, New Ellenton Middle School and Greendale Elementary School. District officials say growth patterns and building conditions in that part of the county prompted the review, and they are holding community input sessions before any changes go to the school board for a vote.
Under the concept being discussed, a middle school addition at Silver Bluff High would let the district consolidate some middle-grade instruction on that campus rather than continuing to operate separate standalone middle school buildings that officials say are showing their age. District leaders have framed the sessions as an early step, emphasizing that the ideas on the table are proposals rather than finalized decisions, and that community feedback will shape what ultimately comes before the board.
Parents, staff and other community members in the affected attendance areas are being encouraged to attend the input sessions and submit feedback directly to the district as planners work through options for easing overcrowding and updating facilities without asking voters for a new bond in the near term. District officials have not set a timeline for when a final version of the master plan would go to the school board.
