The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SSCDNR) Law Enforcement Division will conduct courtesy boat inspections at public landings across the state this Labor Day weekend, from Saturday, September 5, through Monday, September 7. These inspections aim to enhance safety on South Carolina’s lakes and waterways during one of the busiest boating periods of the year.
SCDNR officers will be available to perform quick, comprehensive checks for required safety equipment and proper boat and motor registrations. Boaters found not in compliance with regulations will not receive citations during these complimentary inspections. Instead, they will have the opportunity to correct any issues before launching their vessels. Officers will also provide guidance and answer questions about safe boating practices.
While no specific inspection locations are scheduled within Aiken County, residents planning to boat on nearby bodies of water such as Lake Murray or Lake Greenwood may encounter these inspections. Lake Murray Dam in Lexington County will host inspections on Saturday, September 5, and Dreher Island, also in Lexington County, will have inspections on Monday, September 7. Lake Greenwood’s River Fork in Greenwood County is another inspection site on Saturday, September 5.
