Four-star Class of 2027 point guard Kaylor Buse is scheduled to visit the University of South Carolina on October 3 as part of her recruitment process. The 5-foot-9 West Linn, Oregon, native is a finalist for the South Carolina women’s basketball program, which extended an offer to her on July 30.
Buse is ranked as the ninth-best point guard in her class by ESPN and is No. 52 overall in ESPN’s rankings. Her visit to South Carolina follows previous visits to Washington and upcoming stops at TCU, Utah, and Oregon this fall. The recruitment by Coach Dawn Staley comes after the departure of presumed starting point guard Maddy McDaniel, leaving South Carolina with no true point guards on its 2026-27 roster.
Buse shared on August 22 that she is looking for a campus with a positive vibe and a program where she can stay for all five years, with teammates feeling like sisters. She noted that her offer from South Carolina came at a perfect time in her recruitment and described Coach Staley as down-to-earth with pure communication, speaking highly of her players and program authentically.
Coach Staley has been actively recruiting on the West Coast, with three players from the Class of 2026—Kaeli Wynn and Jerzy Robinson from California, and Oliviyah Edwards from Washington—already in the program. Jordan Lee, a transfer, is also from California. These players have multiple years of eligibility remaining, which could be a factor in Buse’s decision regarding distance.
Analysis of Buse’s high school tape suggests she could be a strong fit for the Gamecocks’ systematic offense, which requires point guards to draw and kick to open players rather than focusing on one-on-one play. While she is working on her left hand, Buse demonstrates strength in attacking and finishing through contact and possesses a strong spot-up jumper, a skill utilized by Raven Johnson for Staley’s offense last season. Buse reached the 1,000-point milestone for West Linn High School in January.
Another point guard, GG Banks, ranked fourth in her class, is also visiting this fall, with South Carolina competing against programs like Texas and LSU for her commitment. This competition further highlights the importance of Buse’s recruitment for Coach Staley.
