Aiken residents have a variety of community events to look forward to this week, with several activities scheduled to begin today, August 24. Among the highlights, the Aiken County Public Library will host a screening of the film Michael on Tuesday, August 25, at 5:45 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring a cushion and a snack for the PG-13 rated movie.
Also on Tuesday, August 25, several support groups will convene. The Awesome Aiken Al-Anon group will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at First Christian Church, located at 900 Kerr Drive. Nar-Anon, a support group for families and friends of individuals with drug addiction, will also meet from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at St. John’s Methodist Church, 104 Newberry Street SW, with participants asked to meet by the fountain. Celebrate Recovery, a 12-step program, will gather at 7 p.m. at Cedar Creek Church, 3001 Banks Mill Road. Additionally, the Depression Anxiety Bipolar Support Group of Aiken and Surrounding States will hold an online meeting from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. via the GoToMeeting App.
Looking ahead to Wednesday, August 26, the Aiken County Public Library will host a Read, Rattle and Roll program for children ages 0 to 5 at 10:30 a.m. This event will feature a story and ocean-themed activities, followed by tips from Help Me Grow S.C. on free developmental screenings. An ACBL Bridge Game is also scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Lessie B. Price Aiken Senior and Youth Center, 841 Edgefield Avenue. The Savannah River Site Museum, located at 224 Laurens Street SW, will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering free admission to its exhibits on the Savannah River Site and the Cold War.
Thursday, August 27, will feature an in-person stop for the Your Stories, Your SCETV: Local News Outreach Tour and Listening Sessions from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Aiken County Public Library. This free event aims to foster discussion on how local journalism can better serve rural South Carolina, with registration encouraged due to limited seating. Amp the Alley 2026 will continue its Thursday evening concerts in downtown Aiken from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., featuring a performance by Edward Phillips and the Blue. The Aiken County Public Library will also host a Tween Book Club from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for ages 9-12, discussing the book Gamerville. Finally, 4 Cats in the Doghouse will play jazz from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Willcox, 100 Colleton Avenue.
Further into the week, a Senior Fun Day is planned for Friday, August 28, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Lessie B. Price Aiken Senior and Youth Center, offering bingo, games, food, music, and vendors for a $5 fee. Registration for this event closed on August 21. The Aiken Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America will meet on Wednesday, September 2, at Newberry Hall, with registration due by Friday, August 28. Gary Bunker, chairman of Aiken County Council, will be the guest speaker, and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. for a cost of $30 per person.
