Investigators in Aiken County are handling a road-rage shooting that hospitalized a juvenile Sunday night after the encounter that began locally ended in gunfire across the state line in Augusta.
According to Richmond County deputies, a road-rage encounter involving two vehicles started in Aiken County before the shooting occurred around 9:23 p.m. on the 700 block of Walton Way in Augusta. The juvenile — a front-seat passenger in a car driven by his brother — was taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
The victim reported the road-rage encounter began in Aiken County, deputies say. Because Walton Way is inside Richmond County, deputies from that agency were first to respond, but the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office contacted authorities in Aiken County to hand the investigation to their jurisdiction — the origin of the release describing the incident.
The North Augusta Department of Public Safety confirmed Monday night it is the investigating agency and that no arrest has been made.
