Aiken residents have a variety of community events to look forward to in the coming weeks, with several activities scheduled for Wednesday, August 26. These include a Read, Rattle and Roll program for young children and an ACBL Bridge Game for adults.
The Aiken County Public Library, located at 314 Chesterfield St. S.W., will host a Read, Rattle and Roll program at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. This event is designed for children ages 0 to 5 and will feature a story and ocean-themed activities. Following the storytime, Help Me Grow S.C. will provide information on free developmental screenings. Also on Wednesday, an ACBL Bridge Game will take place at 1 p.m. at the Lessie B. Price Aiken Senior and Youth Center, 841 Edgefield Ave. These bridge games are also held on Mondays at the same time and location.
Looking ahead, the Aiken Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America will hold a meeting at Newberry Hall, 117 Newberry St. N.W., on Wednesday, September 2, at 6 p.m. Dinner, featuring a taco bar, will be served at 6:30 p.m. Gary Bunker, chairman of the Aiken County Council, is scheduled as the guest speaker. The cost to attend is $30 per person, and registration is required by Friday, August 28. Attendees are encouraged to wear country club casual attire.
The Savannah River Site Museum, located at 224 Laurens St. S.W., offers free admission and is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum showcases exhibits and resources related to the Savannah River Site and the Cold War.
Regular weekly events continue throughout Aiken. The Awesome Aiken Al-Anon group meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at First Christian Church, 900 Kerr Drive. Nar-Anon, a support group for families and friends of individuals with drug addiction, meets Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at St. John’s Methodist Church, 104 Newberry St. S.W., with meetings held by the fountain entrance. Celebrate Recovery, a 12-step program for men and women, convenes Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at Cedar Creek Church, 3001 Banks Mill Road. The Depression Anxiety Bipolar Support Group of Aiken and Surrounding States meets online Tuesdays from 7-8:30 p.m. via the GoToMeeting App. Additionally, 4 Cats in the Doghouse performs jazz on Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Willcox, 100 Colleton Ave.
