Trump Urges SC Voters: ‘Pretend I’m on the Ballot’

President Donald Trump recently encouraged his supporters to imagine his name on the ballot when they vote in midterm elections, a message he delivered during a rally in South Carolina. The president made this appeal on Friday night in support of Senator Darline Graham, who is facing a Republican Senate runoff election on Tuesday.

Speaking at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, Trump stated that the perception is his supporters turn out in large numbers when he is personally on the ballot, but not as much for other Republican candidates. He urged the crowd to come and vote, emphasizing the importance of their participation. Trump also suggested this approach should be applied to other elections, highlighting the need to elect Graham and other Republicans.

During his nearly 90-minute speech, Trump reiterated his message, telling supporters to consider that he, along with the country, is on the ballot. This new strategy follows a series of setbacks for Trump-endorsed candidates this month. Six of his endorsed candidates for House or governor failed to secure the Republican nomination in their respective primaries in August. Prior to this month, only three Trump-backed candidates had lost their bids in similar contests this year.

Despite Trump’s endorsement, Senator Graham did not win a majority of the vote in the initial primary. Some of Trump’s supporters present at the Friday rally expressed ongoing concerns about Graham, particularly after what they described as a poor debate performance earlier in the week. Notably, Trump did not mention Representative Ralph Norman, the other candidate on the ballot in Tuesday’s runoff election, during his remarks.
