AIKEN, S.C. — Voters in House District 86 chose Republican Tommy Paradise over Democrat Malcolm Green on Nov. 3, handing him the open seat that crosses Aiken and Lexington counties.
Early unofficial tallies had Paradise at 9,052 and Green at 6,503, or roughly three-fifths of the ballots reported from the district.
Longtime Rep. Bill Taylor, first elected in 2010, stepped aside after announcing in March that he would not seek another term and later backed Paradise.
The November pairing was set on June 9, when Paradise beat Kim Ray in the GOP primary and Green beat Stuart Epting on the Democratic side.
Other Aiken-area House contests stayed with incumbents. Charlie Hartz posted 12,112 in District 81 against Peter Swales at 7,975. Bill Hixon tallied 10,417 in District 83 against Jason Payne at 5,844. Melissa Oremus finished with 8,452 in District 84 against Darnell Holston at 6,959. District 82 went to Bill Clyburn at 8,544 over Suzy Spurgeon at 5,235.
