AIKEN, S.C. — Republican state Rep. Bill Hixon is asking Aiken-area voters in S.C. House District 83 for another term, pitching himself as a check on rising household bills and a defender of local say over big projects like data centers.
The district takes in parts of Aiken and Edgefield counties. Hixon leads the House panel that oversees agriculture, natural resources and environmental affairs. His legislative biography lists past service as chairman of the Aiken Technical College Commission and a seat on the board of the regional economic development partnership that serves both counties.
In a candidate questionnaire, Hixon named the cost of everyday living as the district’s biggest challenge, pointing to groceries, gasoline, housing, utilities and insurance. He cited the lower state income tax rate and raising the Homestead Exemption, now $75,000 for eligible homeowners instead of $50,000, as relief already delivered.
On data centers, Hixon said he opposes a statewide moratorium in favor of letting affected communities decide, and noted that Edgefield County has set zoning rules for such projects.
Election Day is Nov. 3.
