AIKEN, S.C. — Polo, fashion and fundraising come together Sunday afternoon, Oct. 18, when Brooke USA stages its Ponies and Pearls benefit in Aiken at New Bridge Polo and Country Club, 862 New Bridge Road. Play begins at 3:30 p.m.
This is the fifth year for the event, which honors Aiken’s long equestrian tradition. This year’s program pays tribute to the late horsewoman Ina Ginsberg, whose devotion to riders and horse owners in the city shaped generations of local equestrians.
Brooke USA raises money to care for horses, donkeys and mules that haul and plow in poor countries, and to help the families whose income depends on that labor. The charity says some 100 million of those animals support about 600 million of the poorest people in the world.
Polo has a visible place in the group’s work. Its ambassadors include Agustin Arellano, a 4-goal player who has represented Team USA and sits on the board of the U.S. Polo Association.
Individual tickets cost $150. The posted deadline to buy them was Oct. 16, so anyone hoping to attend should check with the organization first.
