Panthers Reportedly Sign Veteran Linebacker Bobby Okereke

The Carolina Panthers have reportedly reached an agreement with veteran linebacker Bobby Okereke on a one-year deal, a development that occurred on August 29, 2026. This move comes as the team prepares for the upcoming season, aiming to solidify its defense.

Okereke, 30, brings significant experience to the Panthers, having played seven seasons in the NFL. He spent his first four years with the Indianapolis Colts before joining the New York Giants for the past three seasons. A third-round draft pick out of Stanford, Okereke has appeared in 110 games, starting 95 of them.

Known for his productivity, Okereke has recorded at least 132 tackles in four of his last five seasons, including a team-high 143 tackles last year. His career statistics include 805 tackles, 7.5 sacks, seven interceptions, 11 forced fumbles, and eight fumble recoveries.

The signing of Okereke provides an experienced option at linebacker, contrasting with the younger players who had been competing for a starting role alongside Devin Lloyd during the preseason. Trevin Wallace and Claudin Cherelus, who were the only starters to play in the final preseason game, have a combined 26 career starts, with Wallace accounting for 20 of those. Okereke, an Eagle Scout and former team captain for the Giants, was also nominated for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award during his time with the Giants.

The Panthers must reduce their roster to the league limit of 53 players by 6 p.m. on Sunday. Okereke’s official signing will necessitate a corresponding roster move, as the team currently has 91 players.
