Aberg in Form for BMW Championship

Aberg in Form for BMW Championship

The 2026 FedEx Cup Playoffs continue with the BMW Championship at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri. The course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, is a par 70 stretching 7,448 yards, featuring an average green size of 7,600 square feet. It has previously hosted three major championships since 1965, with Brooks Koepka winning the PGA Championship there in 2018.

Ludvig Aberg is considered a strong contender, showing recent form that places him slightly ahead of Rory McIlroy on the odds board. Aberg has gained over 8.1 strokes off the tee in his last two tournaments. His performance at the St. Jude Championship would have been stronger if not for struggles with iron play on Saturday.

Scottie Scheffler enters the championship as the favorite with +290 odds, following his dominant victory at last week’s St. Jude Championship, which marked his second PGA Tour win of the season. Scheffler leads the FedEx Cup standings by more than 1,400 points over Matt Fitzpatrick. His St. Jude performance included his best putting display, gaining over 6.6 strokes on approach.

Other players to watch include Si Woo Kim, who finished second at the St. Jude Championship and has gained over 2.5 strokes on approach in seven consecutive tournaments. Hideki Matsuyama has resolved driver issues since the U.S. Open, gaining strokes off the tee in six straight tournaments, including over 3.6 strokes last week. Viktor Hovland, who has gained over 10 strokes combined on approach in his last three tournaments, is also a notable player.

The field for this second leg of the playoffs is trimmed to the top 50 players in the FedEx Cup standings. Past BMW Championship winners include Scottie Scheffler (2025), Keegan Bradley (2024, 2018), Viktor Hovland (2023), Patrick Cantlay (2022, 2021), Jon Rahm (2020), Justin Thomas (2019), Marc Leishman (2017), and Dustin Johnson (2016).
