AIKEN, S.C. — USC Aiken grabbed a pair of first-half goals and then hung on through a Lander push after the break, winning 2-1 in Peach Belt Conference men’s soccer on Wednesday night, Oct. 21, in Aiken.
Carlos Colomer put the Pacers in front at the 15:19 mark, finishing a feed from Daniel Dalehaug for his fourth goal of the year. Twenty minutes later, at 35:15, Riad Zitouni doubled the lead with his third of the season, set up by Melvin Maboungou and Colomer.
Lander answered in the 66th minute when Storm van de Werken scored his first goal of the season off a pass from Tal Torgeman, but the Pacers kept the visitors off the board the rest of the way. Lander did not put a shot on goal over the final 24 minutes at Pacer Pit.
USC Aiken finished with 17 shots to 14 for Lander. The Bearcats earned nine corner kicks, all of them in the second half, while the Pacers had four. A crowd of 411 watched the 6 p.m. match.
The result moves USC Aiken to 4-8-1 overall and 3-7-1 in league play. Lander drops to 4-6-4 and 3-4-3.
It completes a season sweep of the Bearcats for the Pacers, who also won 2-1 at Lander in Greenwood on Sept. 30. That road win was USC Aiken’s first in the series since a 3-2 result on Oct. 1, 2014.
Lander is next at home on Saturday, Oct. 24, against No. 16 Flagler, the regular-season champion, at 3 p.m.
