AIKEN, S.C. — National Weather Service storm surveys have confirmed eight tornadoes touched down across the CSRA on Saturday, Oct. 10, including paths that impacted Aiken and Barnwell counties, with no injuries or fatalities reported.
The tornadoes occurred Saturday afternoon and evening and also struck Allendale, Screven and Burke counties. Preliminary ratings were EF0 to EF1, with estimated peak winds ranging from about 85 to 110 mph, according to survey results reported Monday.
Barnwell County saw the longest-track tornado, which remained on the ground for about 18 miles. An EF1 tornado near Barnwell and Williston carried maximum wind speeds of about 105 mph, while another EF1 near Kline reached about 95 mph, National Weather Service survey details showed.
In Aiken County, an EF1 tornado touched down southeast of Bethcar Church Road on Oct. 10 and moved northwest, causing mostly tree damage along Coleman Bridge Road, Quail Run Road, Kennedy Drive and Camp Rawls Road before lifting north of Eagerton Road.
Survey teams also documented damage across Allendale and Screven counties, including homes with roof and porch damage west of Gravel Hill Road and significant tree damage in eastern Screven County where a large tree fell on a mobile home.
Hurricane Isaias brought heavy rain, gusty winds and the tornado threat to the region over the weekend. Local officials said the confirmation came after field surveys wrapped up, and no injuries were tied to any of the eight confirmed tornadoes.
