AIKEN, S.C. — A replenishment blood drive is set for Wednesday at the Aiken County Government Center to support Aiken County Sheriff Office Deputy Ethan Crosby, who was shot and run over during a confrontation with a suspect last week.

Shepeard Community Blood Center is organizing the drive from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1930 University Parkway in Aiken. Donors must be 16 or older and bring a photo ID.

Crosby was injured Oct. 5 after a chase that began with a reported hit-and-run crash and ended near Scotch Lane off Powell Pond Road. He was hit in the lower body, required surgery, and was later run over before deputies returned fire, according to the Aiken County Sheriff Office.

The Aiken County Sheriff Office said Crosby was released from the hospital Friday, Oct. 9, after two surgeries. Officials called the release a significant and positive step forward on what they described as a long road to recovery.

The suspect in the confrontation was killed. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the officer-involved shooting, which is standard procedure in such cases.

Organizers say the Wednesday drive is one way the community can support Crosby and other patients who need lifesaving blood. Appointment times are listed through Shepeard Community Blood Center.
