Nick Chubb Retires From NFL at 30

Running back Nick Chubb has announced his retirement from the NFL at age 30, concluding a career marked by both dominant performance and significant injuries. Chubb made the announcement on Friday night, stating he wanted to end his career healthy and following a winning season.

Chubb was drafted by the Cleveland Browns four slots after Sony Michel in the 2018 NFL Draft. He quickly established himself as a premier running back, rushing for 996 yards as a rookie despite only starting nine games. From 2019 to 2022, Chubb achieved four consecutive 1,000-yard-plus seasons, maintained an average of over 5 yards per carry in each of those seasons, and earned four consecutive Pro Bowl selections. He finished second in rushing yards in 2019, behind Derrick Henry.

Through his first five seasons, Chubb accumulated 6,341 rushing yards, scored 48 rushing touchdowns, and averaged 5.2 yards per carry. His career trajectory was significantly altered in September 2023 when he sustained a severe left knee injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers, requiring two surgeries and sidelining him for the remainder of that season and part of the next. He had previously torn multiple ligaments while playing at the University of Georgia.

Upon his return in 2024, Chubb suffered another injury, breaking his foot, which again ended his season prematurely. Despite these setbacks, Chubb expressed no regrets about his career, emphasizing his ability to return to the field after each injury. He shared his message on Instagram, reflecting on his journey and the importance of health after football.
