Born in Woodburn, Oregon, Clemens was the son of the late Wade and Catherine Littleton Clemens. He dedicated 25 years of his life to serving as a pilot in the U.S. Air National Guard, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before his retirement in 1979. Following his military career, he transitioned to a successful tenure at United Airlines, clocking in 33 years of service. He culminated his career at United Airlines as a captain, flying the Boeing 777 on routes to Europe until his retirement in 1997.
In March 2020, Clemens relocated to Aiken, South Carolina. Prior to his move, he had lived for two decades in Barrington, Illinois, in addition to spending 20 years in Lake in the Hills, Illinois. While residing in Aiken, he became an active member of St. John’s Methodist Church and was also a social member of Woodside Country Club.
Clemens is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marjorie Miller Clemens. He also leaves behind a daughter, Kristen Renee, and her husband, Oakley Bell. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Marlene Jordan Charles, and two brothers, Charles Clemens and Gordon Clemens. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Donald, Steve, Harland, and Gilbert Clemens.
Arrangements for Clemens’ interment will take place in Hermitage, Pennsylvania, at a later date to be determined. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to St. John’s Methodist Church at P.O. Box 809, Aiken, SC 29802. The final arrangements are being managed by Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, located at 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC.
