Philip Terry Barker, age 79, of Aiken, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Known for his dedication to family, humor, and community, Barker left behind a legacy that touched many lives.

Barker was born on July 27, 1945, in Ridgway, Pennsylvania, to Lucille Rhines. He spent his formative years in Emporium, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Cameron County High School in 1964. Following high school, he pursued further education at Williamsport Community College, training as a machinist.

After completing his studies, Barker moved to Warren, Pennsylvania, where he began a long career at Osram Sylvania. Over the span of 38 years, he became known as a skilled toolmaker, eventually retiring from the company. After retirement, Barker relocated to Fort Myers, Florida, before moving to Aiken, South Carolina, in 2024.

In his personal life, Barker was an avid outdoorsman. He delighted in hunting excursions, often accompanied by his son and grandson. Fishing was another passion, with memorable days spent on his boat in Florida and on the Allegheny River alongside his son. His love for the outdoors extended to his involvement in the Pine Grove Sportsman’s Club, where he participated actively in recreational activities.

Beyond his hobbies, Barker had a flair for creativity. He spent considerable free time refinishing and selling antiques, showcasing his talent and interest in craftsmanship. Friends and family fondly remembered him for his outgoing personality and infectious sense of humor, which contributed to a warm and welcoming presence.

Philip Barker is survived by his two children: Ryan Barker and his wife, Marci, from Warren, Pennsylvania, and Kristine Nyberg and her companion Ted Benz, of Aiken, South Carolina. He is also survived by two grandchildren; Ashley Barker-Ford and her husband, Ryan, of Sugar Grove, Illinois, and Adam Barker, residing in Warren, Pennsylvania.

His extended family includes son-in-law David Nyberg of Warren, Pennsylvania, and brother-in-law David Caruso and his wife Mary, of Wichita, Kansas. Additionally, he is survived by cousins Gary A. Clinger and his wife Barbara, as well as Dennis J. Clinger, both of Emporium, Pennsylvania. Philip Barker was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Rhines, and his aunt Lois Clinger.

A private service will be held at Newton Cemetery in Emporium, Pennsylvania, at the family’s convenience. The arrangements are being handled by Shellhouse Funeral Home, Inc., located at 924 Hayne Ave., Aiken, SC 29801.
