City of Aiken Government

The City of Aiken, South Carolina is governed by a council-manager system. The city council consists of six members, all of whom are elected from single-member districts. The mayor is elected at-large. The city council is responsible for setting policy for the city and overseeing the city manager, who is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the city. The city council meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 PM in the City Council Chambers at the Aiken Municipal Building. The city manager is appointed by the city council and serves at their pleasure.
