Exciting News for Students: Aiken County Public Schools Set to Resume In-Person Learning
Hey there, Aiken residents! Are your kids ready to get back to their classrooms? Well, mark your calendars because Aiken County Public Schools is gearing up to resume in-person learning on January 24, 2025. However, hold on to your hats—school will start with a two-hour delay as the district handles some lingering weather concerns.
What’s Going On?
With the temperatures starting to rise, the district is optimistic that conditions will improve. School district leaders have been diligently driving around hundreds of miles across the county assessing the roads, especially after recent snowfall that left some areas a bit tricky for travel. While main roads are looking better as the snow melts, secondary roads—especially those that are less traveled and shaded—may still pose a risk.
Parents and guardians are urged to avoid those less-traveled routes to ensure everyone stays safe during the morning commute. After all, the safety of our students, staff, and families is the top priority. If your family has any concerns about the conditions, don’t hesitate to reach out to the school’s leadership for guidance.
Bus Pickups and Schedule Adjustments
Heads up, though! There might be some changes to school bus pickup locations, particularly in our more rural areas. So keep your eyes peeled for any updates regarding your child’s bus route. Students on half-day schedules, like those in Early Learning Special Education, are encouraged to attend school. However, it’s important to note that mid-day bus transportation will not be available for these students.
During the two-hour delay, no pre-school activities will take place, ensuring that students can settle in safely before the day begins. But it’s not all bad news! After-school care through QuestZone will be available, and all after-school activities will proceed as planned—so no need to worry about schedules getting out of whack!
Special Notes for CTE Students
For those attending the Aiken County Career and Technology Center, morning session students are advised to report to their assigned high schools, while everything continues as normal for the afternoon sessions. Keeping this in mind will help make for a smoother transition back to in-person learning.
What About Surrounding Areas?
And it’s not just Aiken making a move! Edgefield County Schools will be back in action on the same day, and both USC Aiken and Aiken Technical College will resume their regular schedules too. Sounds like everyone is eager to get back to their routine!
It’s worth mentioning that on January 23, many schools in the area faced closures due to unsafe travel conditions caused by black ice, with both the Richmond County School System and Aiken County opting for e-learning that day. Columbia County School District also had a brief closure and planned to resume normal operations by January 24.
Stay Connected!
In this digital age, communication is key, and instructors will keep families informed through platforms like Remind, Class Dojo, Canvas, or SeeSaw. So, it’s a good idea to stay plugged in so you won’t miss any updates as we transition back to in-person learning.
Exciting times are ahead, Aiken! Get ready to gear up for another school year filled with learning, growth, and of course, plenty of memories! Here’s to a smooth return on January 24!
