Downtown Aiken Boutique Epona to Close After Over a Decade in Business

Epona, a beloved boutique located at 137 Laurens St. S.W. in downtown Aiken, will cease operations after over ten years of serving the community. The store is currently holding a going-out-of-business sale with significant discounts on merchandise. The final day of operations is scheduled for August 23, 2025.

The owner, Greer, announced that the decision to close stems from increased rent set by the new landlord. In reaction to the closure, customers can enjoy discounts of up to 50% off on gifts, while scarves are priced at just $5 each. Other items within the boutique are being offered at a 30% discount.

Going-Out-of-Business Sale

The ongoing sale includes not only various merchandise but also store furniture, displays, fixtures, and packaging materials. Customers interested in purchasing items have begun marking their favorites; however, they will not be able to take these items home until after the store officially closes on August 24. For detailed information regarding price reductions, updates can be found on Epona’s Facebook page.

History of Epona

Epona was co-founded in 2014 by Greer and Sharon Marosek, who moved to Arizona in 2017 and is no longer affiliated with the business. The boutique was named after a Celtic goddess known for protecting horses and equines, which reflects its commitment to offering unique and appealing items to customers.

Over the years, Epona has become a staple in the Aiken community, providing a variety of merchandise that catered to the tastes of local shoppers. In March 2024, Epona faced a setback when the Crofts Block building suffered a fire, leading to a temporary closure. However, the boutique successfully reopened in August 2024 after completing necessary repairs.

Recent Changes and Future Plans

The Crofts Block building, which houses Epona, was sold for $1.25 million to Laurens Street Holdings LLC in May 2025. Although Greer had initially hoped to extend operations for a couple more years, she has decided to relocate to North Carolina following the closure.

As the last days of operation approach, Epona’s regular hours for customers are from Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This schedule allows community members to visit and take advantage of the discounts before the boutique closes its doors for good.
