# SCDOT Wants Input on Three Aiken County Bridge Replacements

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. — Drivers who rely on three small Aiken County bridges have until Nov. 13 to tell the South Carolina Department of Transportation what they think of plans to tear them down and build new ones.

The three crossings are on Old Sudlow Lake Road over Mims Branch, on Old Dibble Road, and on Banks Mill Road SE over Cedar Creek West. The state agency expects work on the replacements to start in 2028.

Each new bridge is planned on the same alignment as the one it replaces. That means each road would be shut to through traffic at the bridge while crews work, with a signed detour sending drivers around the closure. SCDOT puts the construction time at roughly six to nine months per bridge.

The Aiken County work is part of a larger group of replacements the agency has grouped as package 24. SCDOT plans to deliver the package under a design-build contract, a method meant to speed up the schedule by letting one team handle both design and construction.

The comment window opened Oct. 14 and covers 14 bridge projects in the package. Detour maps for each Aiken County crossing are posted on the project page.
