AIKEN, S.C. — Downtown Aiken gets a STEM afternoon Saturday as the Savannah River Site Museum stages Fall Fission, its fourth yearly festival, from 1 until 4 p.m. at 224 Laurens Street Southwest.

The program mixes science tables, seasonal treats, giveaways, Halloween-leaning music and a costume contest, organizers said.

A Nuclear Science Week regional calendar frames the gathering as free for families, with Mad Scientist demos, traveling food vendors, a DJ and open museum tours while the festival runs.

Activity stations walk guests through radiation basics, nuclear energy concepts and games that simulate fission and fuel cycles for kids and adults.

There is no ticket charge. The museum sits where Laurens meets Park Street in the heart of downtown.

Nuclear Science Week partners across the CSRA use events like this each fall to spotlight STEM careers tied to the Savannah River Site and related industries.
