NEW YORK — The NBA has told its sportsbook partners to pull a list of wagers it sees as easy to manipulate, a crackdown that arrives days before the 2026-27 season tips off.

A league memo sent to betting companies Friday bars parlays that stack several under bets on one player, the type of wager that surfaced in the cases involving Jontay Porter and Terry Rozier. Books also can no longer take action on who wins the opening tip, on a player missing a particular shot, or on unders for players projected to log fewer than 12 minutes. Alternate under lines with inflated payouts are gone as well.

The thinking behind the list is simple: in each of those markets, one player can swing the result alone. The partners covered include FanDuel, DraftKings and Fanatics, and the league says its approved books handle more than 99% of legal U.S. betting volume.

A second memo, addressed to front offices along with club integrity and legal staff, describes an in-house monitoring platform built on artificial intelligence. It blends game data, injury reports, social media chatter about player availability and individual betting records to flag suspicious activity for investigation.

Training is expanding too. Charles Tillman, the former NFL standout and retired FBI agent, will lead in-person sessions with every team, and rookies will now get betting instruction at the draft combine and in the mandatory Rookie Transition program.

The league also updated its fan code of conduct to spell out a ban on harassing players over bets, hired an outside firm to help screen abusive messages and opened a text-message hotline for reporting threats. Prediction markets, where the NBA has no formal partners, remain harder to police.
