Anthropic is investing in Decart, an Israeli startup that builds real-time generative-AI video technology, in a deal that values the two-year-old company at about $3.1 billion, according to people familiar with the matter. The transaction represents Anthropic’s first equity investment in an external AI company and comes as the San Francisco–based large-language-model developer expands beyond its core Claude assistant business into adjacent parts of the AI stack.

Decart, founded in 2023 and based in Tel Aviv, develops models and infrastructure for generating and manipulating video in real time — a technical area distinct from the batch text-to-video systems offered by companies such as OpenAI and Runway. The company markets its tools to consumer app developers and enterprise customers building live video products, including gaming, live-streaming and augmented-reality applications. It has previously raised capital from investors including Sequoia Capital, Benchmark and Zeev Ventures.

The Anthropic investment is being made as part of a larger funding round for Decart, according to people familiar with the transaction, though the total size of the round and Anthropic’s share of it could not immediately be learned. The $3.1 billion post-money valuation would represent a significant markup from the roughly $500 million valuation Decart carried in its previous fundraising round last year.

For Anthropic, the deal marks a shift in strategy. The company, which counts Google and Amazon among its largest strategic investors, has to date focused its capital on internal model development and enterprise-sales expansion rather than on backing other AI startups. Investing in Decart signals interest in real-time multimodal capabilities that Anthropic does not currently offer directly through Claude, and it gives Anthropic exposure to a set of consumer and creator-facing use cases outside of enterprise chatbots.

The transaction lands in a broader tech-industry environment in which the largest AI infrastructure and model providers — Nvidia, Microsoft, Google, Amazon and now Anthropic — are increasingly investing in each other and in application-layer startups, creating a dense web of cross-holdings across the AI value chain. Anthropic and Decart both declined to comment on the reported terms.
