# RBC Heritage Joins PGA Tour Championship Series in 2028

The PGA Tour announced on September 3, 2026, that the RBC Heritage will become its ninth regular-season Championship Series event, starting in 2028. This addition was anticipated, as the Heritage was expected to be among the 23 to 24 tournaments selected for the league’s top-tier circuit.

The RBC Heritage has a long history as a signature event, having been held annually since 1969 at Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Tournament director Steve Wilmot expressed honor at the inclusion, attributing the recognition to the tournament’s strength and the support from RBC, Boeing, sponsors, volunteers, and fans.

In addition to the four major championships and The Players Championship, the Heritage will join a distinguished group of events. These include the Memorial, Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Sentry, Truist Championship, Cadillac Championship at Doral, Travelers Championship, The GO by Raymond James (formerly the Wyndham Championship), and a Sompo-sponsored event yet to be named.

PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp indicated last week that discussions are ongoing with other potential partners to finalize the schedule, which is slated for announcement on February 22. England’s Matt Fitzpatrick is the defending champion of the Heritage, which is traditionally played in mid-April, the week following The Masters.

While the RBC Heritage is located on Hilton Head Island, it is a significant golf event for South Carolina, drawing interest from golf enthusiasts across the state, including those in the Aiken area, which is known for its own strong equestrian and golf tourism.
