News Summary

The Aiken County Planning Commission has unanimously approved the preliminary plat for the Bedford Landing subdivision, marking a significant step in local development. Set to introduce 91 new lots on a 214-acre tract, this project addresses community needs and includes proposals for traffic management and a range of amenities. Amid community concerns about the impact on traffic and local resources, the development promises recreational facilities, aiming to enhance the neighborhood’s appeal.

Aiken County Welcomes New Homes with Bedford Landing Project Approval

In a move that’s sure to spark both excitement and chatter, the Planning Commission of Aiken County has approved the preliminary plat for the highly anticipated Bedford Landing subdivision. This decision came on April 17, 2025, when all six members of the commission showed up to cast their votes, resulting in a unanimous 5-0 approval.

What’s in the Plans?

So, what can folks expect from this new development? Well, it’s all about homes, community spaces, and a little slice of leisure! The initial phase—Section 1—will bring a total of 91 new lots into the neighborhood. The expansive neighborhood is set to rise on a sprawling 214-acre tract that was recently snagged from Eagle Aviation Inc. for just under three million dollars—a pretty solid investment if you ask around!

Getting Smart About Traffic

Of course, with new homes comes the inevitable question of traffic. To tackle concerns about movement in and out of the development, a thorough traffic study has already been conducted. Right now, it’s under review by the South Carolina Department of Transportation, as well as local authorities in Aiken County and the City of Aiken, who will be in charge of providing water and sewer services to the upcoming community.

But wait, there’s more! To manage the potential increase in traffic flow, Beazley Development is required to put up a traffic signal at the intersection of Beaverdam Road and Columbia Highway North. However, here’s a little heads-up: This signal won’t be built until after the homes in Section 1 are under roofs.

Amenities Worth Talking About

Let’s get to the fun stuff! Plans for Bedford Landing are not just about bricks and mortar. Developers are also dreaming big with an exciting amenities center, which will feature a swimming pool, along with tennis and pickleball courts. If you’re the type who enjoys some recreation, this could be the place for you.
