The Red Door Restaurant offered a variety of authentic Asian dishes before its closure in Aiken.
The Red Door, an Asian cuisine restaurant in Aiken, has officially closed its doors as of April 14, 2025. Despite offering a range of authentic dishes and a warm atmosphere, the restaurant, co-owned by Chad Jajczyk, struggled to maintain long-term success. Located in downtown Aiken, The Red Door faced challenges that led to its closure after just over a year of operation, leaving residents to seek new dining options in the community.
Unfortunately for food lovers in Aiken, the community has lost another dining option. The Red Door, an Asian cuisine restaurant that opened its doors in early 2024, has officially closed its doors for good as of April 14, 2025. Nestled at 126 Laurens St. N.W. in downtown Aiken, this restaurant aimed to offer a delightful escape into the rich flavors of Asian dishes but it appears that the venture just couldn’t withstand the test of time.
The Red Door was designed to be a cozy haven for those craving delicious Asian food. The menu featured a variety of comforting and authentic options such as savory ramen, fluffy bao buns, and rich Japanese curry. Diners could also savor some popular favorites like steamed pork dumplings and chicken yakitori—a stick of grilled chicken, a definite treat on any occasion!
In addition to these scrumptious offerings, guests could explore other culinary gems including miso soup, grilled teriyaki wings, Sichuan green bean salad, seaweed salad, and even kimchi mushrooms. The restaurant was a melting pot of flavors—perfect for those looking to indulge in Asian cuisine.
The Red Door was a proud member of The Aiken Dining Group, co-owned by Chad Jajczyk who served as the executive chef. Jajczyk, alongside his partners Norman Dunagan and Alexandrea Kneece, launched the restaurant in the former location of Jameson McDubby’s, an Irish pub that served Aiken locals until its closure in September 2023.
Despite the original enthusiasm behind the restaurant’s opening, it seems the culinary endeavor faced challenges that eventually brought it to a standstill. The local community was buzzing with excitement when The Red Door first debuted. However, it appears that excitement did not translate into sustainable success.
As news of the closure spread, some locals expressed their disappointment on social media while others reflected positively on their familiar dining experiences. Unfortunately, attempts to reach out for further comments from Dunagan regarding the closing went unanswered, leaving many to speculate what led to this sudden decision. Attempts to contact the restaurant through its Facebook page also resulted in silence.
Chad Jajczyk had a long-standing passion for Japanese cooking, which made The Red Door a personal venture for him. This was his opportunity to dive into Japanese culinary traditions, showcasing his skills and creativity in a restaurant atmosphere. Despite this zeal, it just wasn’t enough to keep the doors open longer than a year.
Aiken residents, who had hoped to have The Red Door as a unique spot to satisfy their cravings for Asian flavors, now find themselves needing to adjust their dining choices once again. The closure of The Red Door serves as a reminder of the ups and downs of the local restaurant scene, where culinary dreams can sometimes take unexpected turns.
As Aiken continues to grow and evolve, the community will undoubtedly look forward to what comes next in the realm of dining options. While The Red Door may be gone, the spirit of exploration and flavor carries on. Cheers to the next culinary adventure waiting to unfold in this vibrant town!
